  1. During my schooldays - 50+ years ago - I did two field trips to the Malham area, climbing Gordale Scar on both occasions. A few years ago I walked to the bottom with family and friends and decided that the way up has either become more steep or I had been very adventurous in my youth! (I don't mind heights but have an aversion to sheer drops.) Some of my schoolfriends sat with their legs hanging over the edge of Malham Cove. When they did so, I would not go within 100 yards of these characters. Health and safety must have been different in the late 1960s/early 1970s!

    1. It was raining when we were on top of Malham Cove, so the 'pavement' was a little slippy. Some people got off it asap, but I found it OK, especially as I had a pole with me. However, I certainly was not going to venture near the edge ...
