English Armada

AM making final preparations for flying to Mallorca tomorrow for the annual Calvià tournament.
There are nine rounds over nine days, starting on Saturday, with the first seven rounds beginning at 20:00, followed by rounds at 15:30 and 10:00.
The time control is 40 moves in 90 minutes, 15 minutes to finish, and a 30-second increment throughout.
There are 152 entries, including 10 from England, and all have to be U2350 and without an IM or GM title.

  1. They do like their after midnight finishes in Spain. It's an 8.00 pm start, so late by British league chess standards and then the move rate schedules a game which could last 4 to 5 hours.

    Against that, you have the whole day free to be a tourist.

    1. I play pretty quickly, but as a rough guess I'd say half my Calvià games see me get back to my hotel after midnight.
