BEAU CHESS - the post-work workings-out of a chess amateur

I begin this blog after getting back into league chess following many years' absence due to work. My post-job status also means I am able to play more tournament chess. My new club in London is Battersea and my first game for them is on Thursday September 14, 2017. I start with a Fide rating of 1858, an ECF grade of 169 (=1968 elo) and an ICCF correspondence rating of 2267. My current Fide is 2009, my ECF is 1955 and my ICCF is 2325.

Spa Chess

FLEW to Prague yesterday afternoon - it should have been yesterday morning, but my British Airways flight from Heathrow took off more than three hours late - and caught a train to Mariánské Lázně.

It is a spa town in Bohemia, better known until WW1 under its Germanic name of Marienbad.

This is the 22nd edition of a chess festival held by the CzechTour, and includes round-robin norm tournaments, an open, a 50+ seniors, a rapid and a blitz.

I am playing in the seniors, which has 79 entries, including an international master and three Fide masters.

The format is nine rounds over eight days, with a time control of 40 moves in 90 minutes, a further 30 minutes to finish, and a 30-second increment throughout.

Assuming your flight was also more than 3 hours late arriving in Prague, and the delay was the airline's fault, you can claim £220 compensation.
