From there I took what I thought was a regional train to Turkhiem, but it turned out the part of the train I was in was only going as far as Buchloe, which is the stop before.
Luckily a guard inspecting tickets put me straight, and there was plenty of time to change at Buchloe to the section that was going on to Turkheim, from where I caught a final train to Bad Wörishofen.
That may all seem rather convoluted and somewhat fraught, but I am familiar with the general route, and I arrived at my hotel by about 17:45 central European time.
I am staying at a different place this year after many years at a previous, which was great in all respects except that its single rooms have a single bed fixed against the wall.
