I have entered the 65+, which has 130 entries, including a grandmaster and two international masters. There is also a 50+, with 44 entries.
There are nine rounds over eight days, so I have booked a halfpoint bye in the first game of the double-round day. Six of the rounds start at 16:30; three at 10:00.
The time control is 90 minutes, with a 30-second increment throughout, and the rules show the prize money to be the same in each tournament, despite the discrepancy in numbers.

Looking up the tournament on chess-results, I see there's something of a squad of ENG over 65s taking part and also a smaller squad of SCO players.
ReplyDeleteOne other point I noted which perhaps could be used in English tournaments is that they've made the allocation of byes more visible by assigning players who have selected byes to a group.

It's becoming quite a popular tournament with Brits and Irish. Weather is similar to Benidorm in December, ie high teens/low 20s, but without the downmarket reputation Benidorm has (unfairly, at least in December, in my opinion).
DeleteThe bye groups are helpful. It seems quite a few people are traveling on the Saturday, taking a bye in R1 and possibly R2 - both 10:00 games.
