PLAYED on top board for Battersea last night away to University College London Bishops in London League Division One West.
Battersea defaulted on boards two, six, seven and eight; UCL Bishops defaulted on board six.

Spanton (2016) - Aliriza Atif Görgün (2059)
Sicilian Bb5(+)
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.Bb5+ Nd7 4.c4!?
This is sixth most-popular in ChessBase's 2022 Mega database behind 0-0, d4, c3, a4!? and Ba4!?
4...Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 6.d4 cxd4 7.Qxd4!?
The main line runs 7.Nxd4 Bg7 8.0-0 0-0 9.Bxd7, when White has a tiny edge, according to Stockfish14.1 and Komodo12.1.1.
7...Bg7 8.Be3 0-0 9.Qd2?!
Both games in Mega22 saw this move, but the engines much prefer 9.Bxd7, albeit giving a slight edge to Black after 9...Bxd7.
How should Black proceed?

9...Nb6!?
The engines like 9...Nc5, which more-or-less forces 10.Bxc5, after which White is weak on the dark squares.
10.c5 dxc5 11.Qxd8!?
If 11.Bxc5, Black has 11...Qc7 with ...Rd8 to come.
11...Rxd8 12.Bxc5 Bd7! 13.Bxe7 Re8 14.Bxf6 Bxf6 15.Bxd7 Bxc3+ 16.bxc3 Rxe4+ 17.Kd1 Rd8 18.Re1 Rxe1+ 19.Kxe1 Rxd7 20.Rd1 Re7+ 21.Kd2 Nc4+

22.Kd3??
I saw the coming check but somehow missed that it was a fork. Correct is 22.Kc2 with equality (22...Re2?? 23.Kd3), according to the engines.
22...Nb2+ 0-1
UCL Bishops won the match 7-0.
