THERE were 46 players in the Fagernes Open, of whom 17 were veterans (born before 1975).

Unlucky for some, 13 of the 17 lost rating points, the biggest number being 55.6 lost by a 1638.

I contributed to this as I beat him in round one.

The biggest gain was by a junior, rated 1689, who jumped 104 rating points (but remember, since he is a junior, his K factor is 40, so his achievement is equal to an ordinary player, with a K factor of 20, gaining 52 Fide).

I also had a hand in this as I conceded a draw to him, despite the final position being easily winning for me, in round five.
