Davos

THE town of Davos, which is really two villages joined together alongside the Landwasser river, lies at 1,560 metres (1,118 feet).
It is best known as a ski resort and as the host of the annual World Economic Forum.
But the settlement dates back more than 800 years, when it had the name Tavaus, ultimately deriving from a Latin word for ravine.
Now is very much the off-season, with several small businesses shutting down between the end of winter sports and the coming of summer walking.
However most of Davos's bars are open, including Mountain's Akt, which is unusual in using an English apostrophe in its name and in stocking 10 non-alcoholic beers
