FAGERNES is the biggest town in Norway's Valdres region, but that is not so impressive when you consider its population is under 2,000, and Valdres as a whole has only 18,000 people.
Indeed Fagernes was only granted town-status in 2007, although it had long been known as a winter and summer tourist-destination, at least for Norwegians.
