I begin this blog after getting back into league chess following many years' absence due to work. My post-job status also means I am able to play more tournament chess. My new club in London is Battersea and my first game for them is on Thursday September 14, 2017. I start with a Fide rating of 1858, an ECF grade of 169 (=1968 elo) and an ICCF correspondence rating of 2267. My current Fide is 2012, my ECF is 1933 and my ICCF is 2254.

THE Mozart family, including 11-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus and his 16-year-old sister Maria Anna, fled to Olomouc in 1767 to escape a smallpox epidemic in Vienna that had claimed the life of a Habsburg princess.

They stayed at the Schwarzer Adler inn

Today it is a popular restaurant, but the stay is commemorated by a plaque

The building is opposite a column erected to thank the Virgin Mary after Olomouc escaped unscathed from a plague that struck the Moravian region in 1714-16
