Statuesque

HULL has its fair share of statues, most of them of people long forgotten.
Poet Andrew Marvell was MP for Hull in the second half of the 17th century, "an incorruptible patriot, a wise statesman, and a zealous and energetic representative"
Charles Wilson was a ship owner and MP, created first Baron Nunburnholme in 1906 - "a great benefactor to the City"
Pride of place goes to this monument to slavery abolitionist William Wilberforce, which has the inscription: Negro Slavery Abolished, 1 Aug. MDCCCXXXIV [1834]
