Where Next?

IN some ways the British championships are a victim of their own success.
This year's edition at Hull had 1,479 entries, from Abbott to Zigmond.
Admittedly many players entered multiple tournaments, meaning the number of competitors was far lower.
Nevertheless entries have increased over recent years, partly as a post-covid bonus, and that limits the number of locations suitable for hosting the championships.
There was a time when the following year's venue was announced at the conclusion of the current congress.
That is no longer the case, but a strong rumour at Hull was that the 2025 championships will be held in Liverpool, which hosted the congress in 2008.
However I doubt if an announcement will be made anytime soon.
