What A Drag

GERMANY does not have a pub culture, or at least not one as we know it in Britain.
It is uncommon to find a place that is just for drinking alcohol - usually bars double up as restaurants, where eaters and drinkers mix more-or-less freely, often at the same communal tables.
So I was surprised to find a bar, Mo's Felsenkeller (note the English-language apostrophe) in Bad Herrenalb.
I watched the Germany-Spain football game there on Friday, surrounded by passionate German fans - and, again to my surprise, surrounded by passionate smokers.
It turns out that in Baden-Württemberg smoking is allowed in bars smaller than 75 square metres, which is why I later came across a restaurant that had a separate smoking bar.
Mo's Felsenkeller (literal translation: Rock Cellar) has another oddity - it only opens Monday-Friday
There are some other restrictions, apart from the size of the bar - under-18s are banned, and, in theory at least, hot food must not be served.

  1. In Bundeslander(County) Rijnland-Palts is smoking also here and there allowed, but in the most County,s not
Each County got his own constitution and rules.
Did you find a good 0.0 there and how is the coffee?

    1. Coffee is pretty poor stuff out of machines, but that is not stopping me walking to a bakery before breakfast and having an espresso while soaking up the morning rays. The alcohol-free beers are nearly all weiss beers - I am having one right now in Mo's - but since I like that type of 'beer', I have no complaints.

    2. That should read weizen (wheat), rather than weiss (white).
