BEAU CHESS - the post-work workings-out of a chess amateur

I begin this blog after getting back into league chess following many years' absence due to work. My post-job status also means I am able to play more tournament chess. My new club in London is Battersea and my first game for them is on Thursday September 14, 2017. I start with a Fide rating of 1858, an ECF grade of 169 (=1968 elo) and an ICCF correspondence rating of 2267. My current Fide is 1886, my ECF is 1924 and my ICCF is 2277.

Double Trouble Tomorrow

TOMORROW is the second double-round day in the Amateur Chess Organization's world senior championship, which is being held at the Fodele Beach Resort in Crete.

I have white in both games, which ought to help, although my opponent in the afternoon game will have a bye in the morning, so he should be fresh.

Meanwhile, after my heartbreaking loss today, I walked to the top of the resort, and was cheered by this view.

Shame about today. Chess players hate losing from a won position. Anyway I reckon the red on the right of the photograph is the pomegranate flower. It should be ripe and ready for picking if you come back in October!?

I must admit the place is growing on me, and it would be more fun with more people about ... but I need to make decisions about July, August and September before I worry about October!
